PAINTING PROJECTS

So now that we own the place we are living in, we decided to do some painting in the kids' bedrooms before moving in all the furniture. It was... a learning experience. It should have been fairly easy, right? But since we were covering up previous colors with different colors (not white), it was humid the weekend we started, and we didn't think to read up about when to remove painter's tape before we started, it went from a 2-3 day project into a week-long project. And as soon as we finished the bedrooms, we decided to paint the garage. Another project that turned out to be more difficult than we had expected. But it was worth it! The 3 rooms look great now!

We didn't really get before and afters of the bedrooms, but the worst part was that there was wallpaper trim in both rooms. Why do people like to use that horrid stuff? On the off chance that it does look good, it only gets old and starts to peel or crack. And unlike paint, which you can just paint over, you have to first remove the paper and the glue from the wall before putting anything else on top of it. And it should have been an easy task, but for some reason, the darn paper was refusing to come off the walls easily no matter what we tried. The other main problem was in the bigger room, the walls had been painted a terrible dark salmon pink. It took way too many coats to properly cover that stuff up (the smaller room was a light blue and we painted it a light purple, so it wasn't so bad). And then, when we finally did try to remove the painter's tape, it started to take the new paint off with it. And when it was off, we noticed that some paint had gotten underneath it anyway. That meant we had to fix up the edges of the ceiling and then decided we needed to repaint the ceiling as well. So we had to get pretty creative (and waste a lot of time) to get everything to work. But it eventually did!
