SIX WEEKS!!!!!! (OLIVE IS 22 MONTHS)

So the biggest things about Eli this week is he got his blessing on Sunday and he started smiling more. It is still not exactly intentional, but they are real smiles and not just gas or something. Man, I love those dimples! He has also started cooing occasionally, he has grabbed my hair a couple times, and he is now focusing on faces and following movement with his eyes (although not for long periods of time).

Eli did have his "1 Month" checkup. Stats:
Height: 23 inches = 88.9%
Weight: 13 lbs = 92%
Head: 99%
He also got a shot. At first he gave a look of what the heck, then he made the saddest face and whimpered for a couple seconds, but he didn't cry. What a tough kid!

As for Olive, she can be so sweet with Eli, but also a little stinker. She has hit Eli a couple times with various objects and her hands. Especially when I tell her she can't have his binki. She will occasionally take his binki right out of his mouth. Sometimes she will give it back, like she wanted to make him sad so she could "soothe" him. Sometimes she will put in in her own mouth, and then when I tell her it is not her binki she will run away and throw it on the ground. I have also caught her drinking his bottle a couple times. And boy, is she bossy. Sometimes she will shove the binki in Eli's face even when he doesn't need it, or try to take the bottle away from us so she can feed him. But she also loves to help. She is always happy to see him in the morning. She will come over and caress his face and say "Hi Eli! Oh, he so cute!" And recently she started saying "Don't cry, Eli, don't cry! I luh you!" She also still loves to give him kisses!

Some things Olive has gotten really good at lately: puzzles, matching games, singing nursery rhyme type songs (she now loves Ba, Ba Black Sheep and Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes), identifying all basic colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, black, white, grey, and even "rainbow"), identifying numbers up to 14 (she tries to count to 20 but the numbers 15-19 sound exactly the same and sometimes she will say eleven-teen for all of them), and now she is getting really good at learning letter sounds. She can tell you what sound most letters say, although she still gets D confused with B, makes the B sound with V, gets some of the vowel sounds mixed up, and sometimes forgets what sound X makes. But other than that, she still surprises me at what she is able to pick up at such a young age!

(Modelling her new "spring" coat we got for $7 at Old Navy on VDay, I put the pictures here instead because this post needed some color)

Olive is really cute with Shade too. I love watching the two of them play together. She absolutely adores her older brother. She is always so excited to go get Shade from school so they can play. She is pretty bossy with him too. She will often tell him where to go (she'll say "Come on, Shade, let's go" and then run in the direction she wants him to follow), what to play with, even what to sing. Kellen said the other night when he put them to bed he was listening to them talk to each other and Olive would say "Shade, ABC song!" and they would sing the alphabet. Then she would say "Shade, Twinkle Twinkle!" and they would sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. And then she would say "Shade, Head, sers, nee, toes!" and they would sing Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes. And even though Shade is tired or whatever, he will go along with it and sing with her, because he absolutely loves having a little sister. They love cuddling together, and sometimes Shade will ask to sleep in Olive's bed with her so they can. Also, often times when we are out and about, Shade loves introducing his little sister to people, even if they weren't interested to know, especially his friends. And now he loves introducing his little brother. Don't get me wrong, Shade still likes to chase Olive around and make her scream and cry sometimes (Olive will come crying to us saying "a scary...!"), like all big brothers do, but he really loves having a sibling he can play with.

As for Shade, he is back in karate. He really likes karate, although he says what he likes the most are the games they play at the end. And something really cool, he got chosen to be on the Leadership Team at his school. He had to fill out an application and everything. They only picked 20 or so kids in the whole school. He goes to meetings and they help think of ways they can help the other kids in the school be better "leaders." He even got sworn in by a judge and got his own T-shirt. He is pretty proud that he made it, and I am just happy that he wants to participate in school stuff like this at such a young age. I think it is one reason he is so well liked at school. Every time we drop him off when they line up outside, or go to a school function, a bunch of kids from his class will say hi to him, even the girls. In fact, his school had a roller skating party the other week. It was Shade's first time ever skating and he was having a hard time getting it down. Kellen was trying to help him figure it out. But there was also a cute girl there who kept holding his hand and helping him around the rink :) Shade is so friendly with other kids, so far he has had no problem making friends, even with girls. He sure is going to be trouble when he is a teenager!
