For New Year's Eve, we were in a hotel about an hour east of L.A. We got crappy pizza from a nearby 7-11 (one of the only places open) and watched Arachnophobia. We stayed awake as long as we could - 9 pm. Our kids had adjusted to California time pretty well by then, but that was midnight in Georgia!
The next morning we had a crappy hotel breakfast, then drove to the L.A. airport (there was hardly any traffic!). We spent a couple hours in the airport (the lines were awesomely short, but we didn't know what to expect, so we were there extra early), then 5 hours on the plane, then an hour finding and getting shuttled to our car, then the half hour drive home. We were home just before 10 pm. Amazingly, our kids did AWESOME the entire trip home! The only problems were our kids had a hard time getting to sleep that night (they were still used to California time), and all our hard work with Olive's potty training had gone out the window. Oh, well. It was definitely worth the inconvenience! Happy New Year!!
