PICTURED ROCKS II

We went to Pictured Rocks again this year. Kellen's sister Colby's family is moving from the Chicago area, so they wanted to see Michigan's Upper Peninsula before they moved. So we planned a week vacation together in some cabins up by Lake Superior. We invited all of Kellen's other family, but only his mom, Sister Janica, and her 3 kids were able to make it out. But I think it was perfect (aside from the mosquitoes and morning sickness, of course).

The first few days before we were to go up there, Janica's family and her mom flew in to visit with us and see Detroit a bit. So Kellen took them to the Greenfield Village (I stayed home to sleep because I had to work that night, and I was sick). The next day they went to the splash park at Heritage. And then on Monday I took them to the Henry Ford Museum. We had a good time, and it was awesome to be able to spend some time with family we hardly ever get to see.

Then on Tuesday, we packed up our 2 cars and drove the 7 hours up to the cabins in the U.P. It was such a beautiful drive. We got to see Lake Huron, and drive along the coast of Lake Michigan for a lot of the way. Lake Superior was very beautiful, but also very cold. The cabins were very nice. There were a lot of mosquitoes this year, but since it was a bit on the cooler side temperature wise, we could comfortably wear jackets and pants to help keep the bugs away.

We hiked to a lot of waterfalls, went on the Pictured Rocks tour, played in the nearby lake (Lake Au Train), played at the beach at Lake Superior, and Kellen even tried to do some fishing. Kellen, Shade, Olive and I also brought our bikes and got to ride them a bit. And even though it was a bit cooler, it was sooooo beautiful, and that actually made it more comfortable for sleeping and hiking. And, it was fun to get to spend so much time with so many cousins. As Kellen's mom noticed, it was all of her grandkids from her side of the family together at the same time.

The ride back was a bit long, but it was still beautiful, which made it nicer. We even got to stop by Bronner's (world's largest Christmas store) on the way home. The next day we took Kellen's mom & Janica's family back to the airport. It was crazy crowded while they were here, but we loved it! They got stuck in Ohio most of the day (flying standby), but they said since all 5 of them fly for free, they made the best of it. Thanks for the visit! We love you guys!
