UTAH - ST. GEORGE

We got to go out to visit Utah again this summer! Once we realized we could fly into Vegas for a fraction of what it costs to fly into Salt Lake, and we still have family living in St. George, it just made sense! Only problem was that I was planning on flying with all 4 kids by myself – including luggage and car seats. It was insane! I planned things out weeks before our flights, and even packed everything a couple of days before so I could practice maneuvering everything before getting to the chaotic airport. Everything was ALMOST perfect. I didn’t have any airport meltdowns or malfunctions until on the way home, and even then, it was just for about 5 minutes (although it seemed to last forever at the time!).

So I had both Olive and Eli in the jogging stroller – and perk! You get to go through an expedited security line at the airport if you have a stroller! And Isaac was in my snuggli carrier. I had 2 Bubble Butt inflatable booster seats attached to Eli’s carseat, and his and Isaac’s carseats were clipped onto the stroller. We then had one large checked bag (actually cheaper than a carry-on for Frontier) that we managed to fit all our clothes and big things into (that Shade pulled), and 3 “personal items” of 2 small backpacks with things for the kids to do, snacks, small pillows (it was a night flight), and a diaper bag. It was hectic! But we got to check in the large suitcase and carseats at the entrance, and then it was putting the small bags in the stroller and trying to entertain the kids until we got on the plane (which was actually one of the hardest parts). I was super stressed the whole day, but the kids actually traveled GREAT. They were all excited to get their own seats, and then they slept pretty much the whole way both ways on the plane. It was a bit of a struggle getting all of the sleeping kids off the plane and back into the stroller, but one of the stewardesses helped. But somehow I missed the ONE announcement that part of the airport was shut down and our bags were going to the other side of the airport, so that was fun. And then there was getting everything onto a shuttle to get to the car rental place (with sleeping kids)… and the confusion with the rental car – they had the one we reserved, then they didn’t, then they had something similar, then they had to go through another company, etc, etc. It took several hours to get from the plane into the actual rental car! And then after I had the kids and luggage packed, they told me it was even a different car! But again, the kids did great. Then they slept the whole 1.5 hour drive to St. George, and we finally got some real sleep!

Getting out there: Sooooo excited to fly; the giant lizard at the Vegas airport

So about our Vacation! We started out in St. George. My older sister Teresa and her girls were at their family's pool house for the 4th of July, and we stayed at my grandparent’s house. Then my sister Jenny brought her girls and my sister Cristi's boys from Carson City, Nevada, to St. George to visit at the same time! And my brother Doug (who lives there) and his 2 girls were there too! It was awesome! We were even all there for my Grandma’s 82nd birthday! What a treat! We also got to visit with a good friend Jen (Ward) Pritchett for a bit. We sure miss our family and friends!

I will do a separate post for the big events so this post isn't too long (4th of July, Grandma's birthday, pool fun, red hill, splash pad, virgin river, art), so I figure this is a good place to put pictures of all the cousins. The first few were frustrating attempts to get a picture of all of them while they are all looking and smiling at the camera at the same time  - NONE of them were perfect, but hey, there were 13 kids!

The kids got a chance to sit on the neighbor's horse at my grandma's house. Eli was scared and did not like it!

Teresa has a lot of practice working with large groups of kids from her days of running the after school programs in Salt Lake - here she is entertaining the kids with soft molding clay, and Tea Parties for the girls (and Eli).

Family loves:

Wilson kids with the Great Grandparents: Isaac was such a happy and snugly baby, the grandparents kept wanting to cuddle with him - especially grandpa! What a lucky kid! The other kids wouldn't sit still with them very long :)

Wilson kids: Shade and dominoes; Olive and mommy look-a-likes (grandma curled her hair); Eli sneaky faces; Eli princess dress; Isaac

Bonus: An old picture of my mom; a quote from my grandma; black widow - common in St. George; blanket face; lakes, sky and mountains of surrounding area - so beautiful!
