Solstice Run

So Kellen caught the 5K bug and has started signing us up for whichever one he can find. So I started running more with him (and Shade). Then he caught the 10K bug and decided he wanted to start running the 6 mile races. I ran with him once - it was a good night for me, but I am not quite in shape for that distance, so my thigh muscles got really sore near the end and for 2 days after. I tried to do a 10K once more on my own, but that was enough for me for now.

So we did the Northville Solstice Run on June 25th (when I should have been getting my ACLS!). Kellen ran the 10K in 48:20!! That is a 7:47 min. mile for 6 miles! He got 13th out of 57 for his age group. Of course the weather was PERFECT. It was in the mid 60s to lower 70s all morning with a good breeze. But then, just to show off, he got out the jogging stroller and took Shade on the 5K run too! (He let Shade run the first 1/2 mile.) He payed for all that running the next day, but it was pretty impressive.

So since my hubby ditched me with the running, I have been lucky enough to find someone else to help motivate me to keep up with it (thanks Meghan!). We did the 5K together - and she has a 5 month old baby! Anyway, overall it was a pretty impressive day!

Runners: Kellen, Shade, Kathy, Meghan

I promise I will really try to make it out there next year! Kellen thinks that since I don't work much and fly free, it is easy for me to leave, but I am having a hard time just makng time for a couple day trip to St. George to take Ariana to The Little Mermaid at Tuacahn! I work part time at the air port, but I have 4 full time jobs here, and they are almost imposible to get time off of right now. We will try to come out before it gets too cold this year, and I will try to make it out to run with you next summer.

You guys are crazy. I've never even run a mile without stopping before. My best time is like ten and a half minutes back in middle school. Luckily Andy feels the same way, though he's not quite as bad as I am.
