Kellen and I had a couple days off together because of Good Friday (a rarity), so we decided to do some camping for Easter. It seems that every time we have a day off together, the weather is never in our favor - it was sunny and warm the day before, and the day after we went camping, but the 2 nights/days we were there were a bit chilly. But we decided to go anyway. We just needed to spend some time together out of the house!
So it was supposed to rain in Michigan all around us one of those nights, so we looked into something a little more south, but not too far away. And we found a nice state park in Ohio about 75 minutes away called Maumee Bay State Park. It is located right next to the shore of Lake Eerie, plus there were quite a few small ponds/lakes nearby. It was very beautiful (although you could tell they probably get a ton of mosquitoes in the summer). Also, each campsite had an asphalt drive for a car/camper, a large patch of grass to put up a tent and play on, and electrical hookups. It was perfect for Olive to crawl around on (she is still too timid to walk much). I didn't have to worry about her ending up in a mud puddle or eating dried up leaves or sticks. And of course I brought extra blankets and extra clothes, so we stayed warm enough.
Kellen was actually able to get off work a bit early Thursday afternoon, so we got all packed up and got to the campsite and set up before it got dark. The next day, we had breakfast, did our egg hunt, then spent some time at the beach (it is a sandy beach, but there are large portions that are COVERED in sea shells, so we had to collect a few), and Shade did some exploring with some nearby kids. There is also a little playground nearby we went to a couple times. Then we had dinner and tried to do smores over a fire without much luck (the wood was too wet). The next day we had breakfast, packed up, then went back to the beach for awhile. There was also a nearby lighthouse we hiked over to, although we found out it was on private property when we got near it, but we got some pictures anyway.
One thing I love about this area - there are so many beautiful places close by that you can get to within a day's drive!
