1ST LOST TOOTH!
On Shade's first day of 1st grade - public school - just to make it more memorable, he lost his first tooth! He freaked out at first because it wasn't even loose. He was just sitting on the couch and he kind of let out a screech and yelled my name and said "my tooth!" I looked over and saw blood in his mouth and in his hand. We went to the bathroom to wash up and I looked in his mouth. Sure enough, there was a new tooth coming in behind where his old tooth was! He said he thought there was a piece of popcorn stuck on his tooth, so he was trying to get it off, and his tooth popped out! Pretty freaky experience for a newbie, especially since we hadn't really talked to him about his teeth falling out yet because we didn't realize he was at that stage yet since he didn't have any loose teeth we knew about. But after he realized what had really happened, he got excited and became proud about it. Another stepping stone to becoming a big kid. So he put it in an envelope and put it under his pillow for the "Tooth Fairy."
A bit about the Tooth Fairy in our home. We don't do Santa in our family. We decided we didn't want to bother with Santa when Shade was a baby. But inevitably Shade found out who Santa was anyway. So one day when Shade was really young he asked Kellen if Santa was real, and Kellen had already decided that he wasn't going to try and come up with story after story to try and make Santa seem real. So Kellen just told Shade the truth about Santa, and told him to not tell other kids about it (which I am completely okay with). So we decided to not do any of the other fairy tale holiday creatures either (Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, etc). But we still make a big deal about the holidays, and Shade still got a reward for losing his tooth and being a brave kid about it!
